What is a low FODMAP diet? Should I follow this diet all my life?

What is a FODMAP diet?

It is a diet low in fermentable oligo-, di-, oligo-, and monosaccharides that can trigger bloating and symptoms of IBS in susceptible individuals.

For patients with IBS, based on the guidelines,  it’s recommended to have a limited trial of the low FODMAP diet-restriction phase, then reintroduce one product at a time to find a trigger food- reintroduction phase and then personalize the diet based on a permissive food-personalization phase

It`s important to have a TRIAL of FODMAP to find a personalized diet that doesn’t cause symptoms of IBS. However, staying long-term on low FODMAP is NOT recommended since it`s a very restricted diet and can cause a deficiency of certain vitamins and minerals.
